Testsigma, an Indian startup specializing in AI-powered, low-code test automation, announced on Wednesday that it secured $8.2 million in a funding round spearheaded by MassMutual Ventures. Previous backers Accel, STRIVE, and BoldCap also contributed. The firm, which had previously garnered $4.6 million in 2022, has introduced new GenAI functionalities to its platform, enhancing the performance of Quality Assurance (QA) teams. These capabilities enable the generation of test scenarios and cases from various inputs like URLs, product designs, screenshots, and Jira stories. This development not only speeds up test creation and execution but also ensures thorough coverage.

Testsigma's AI suggests test scenarios to identify and address gaps caused by code changes, maintaining software robustness and reliability. The company also launched a new product tailored for the Salesforce ecosystem, enhancing its comprehensive low-code platform. This new tool is designed specifically for Salesforce developers and administrators, helping them significantly accelerate automated Salesforce testing. According to Testsigma's CEO, Rukmangada Kandyala, these advancements bring the company closer to its goal of developing the operating system for quality engineering teams. He emphasized the heavy investment in GenAI and the rapid adoption of these AI practices among their customers.

Founded by Rukmangada Kandyala, Pratheep Velicherla, Vikram Chaitanya, and Rajesh Reddy in 2019, Testsigma employs a Natural Language Programming approach. This enables users to construct complex automated tests in plain English, combining the simplicity of natural language with the structure of programming languages. The built-in Generative AI capabilities further simplify test scenario generation, significantly reducing development efforts while ensuring coverage. Testsigma is praised for its simplicity and enterprise readiness, providing flexible solutions for comprehensive testing needs across web, mobile, desktop apps, APIs, and now Salesforce.

The platform’s notable clients include Cisco, Samsung, Bosch, Oscar Health, and the American Psychological Association. Anvesh Ramineni, Managing Partner at MassMutual Ventures, highlighted the transformative change in QA automation approaches due to Testsigma's AI-driven, low-code solution. This innovation allows diverse user profiles, including manual testers and business analysts, to contribute more effectively to software releases. Abhinav Chaturvedi from Accel Partners noted the growing demand for teams to adopt low-code and AI-powered solutions, celebrating the accelerated uptake of Testsigma in the QA community and broader enterprise sphere.

A cited IDC report predicts that by 2028, GenAI-based tools will write 70 percent of software tests, reducing the need for manual testing and enhancing test coverage, software usability, and code quality. It also forecasts that by the same year, natural language will become the predominant programming language, used to develop 30% of new applications.
