Transition VC, focused on energy transition, has launched India’s first startup accelerator for the sector. This aligns with NITI Aayog's upcoming national policy framework for energy transition.
Focus Areas
The accelerator supports startups in:
- Decarbonisation
- Electrification of transport
- Energy storage
- Net Zero technologies
- Power electronics
- New energy sources
T-Hub and IEEE are partners for the inaugural cohort, which will incubate 7-8 startups, providing:
- Funding
- R&D resources
- Mentorship
- Prototyping assistance
Investment & Support
“We're allocating part of our ₹400-crore fund to the accelerator,” said Mohammed Shoeb Ali, Co-founder & Managing Partner. He emphasized leveraging India’s engineering strengths to reduce fossil fuel dependency and enhance energy security.
Partners' Role
- T-Hub (Innovation Execution Partner): Offers R&D and prototyping support.
- IEEE (Knowledge Partner): Provides academic resources and technical expertise.
Overcoming Challenges
Ali noted that deep-tech hardware development needs significant R&D, often challenging for startups. T-Hub CEO Mahankali Srinivas Rao called the accelerator a crucial step for innovators in energy transition.
Centres of Excellence
Two Centres of Excellence, including one at T-Hub, will be established to support collaboration and innovation in energy transition and sustainability.
